Assay

Hiring assessments where candidates do real work in a real sandbox.
Most technical interviews measure how well you perform while somebody watches. Assay is an attempt to measure whether you can do the work.
The idea
A candidate gets a real sandboxed environment and a real task, and does the work the way they would actually do it. Afterwards an automated interview asks them about the decisions they made along the way.
That second half is the part I find interesting. Being able to explain why you did something is most of what separates someone who solved a problem from someone who pattern matched their way onto an answer that happened to work.
What I work on
I am the primary backend contributor, and I own the documentation. The second half of that sentence sounds like the smaller job. On a platform where the whole product is a sandbox executing other people's code, it is not.
